Judging

General

  • The 2025 Awards are comprised of 63 categories, plus three Major Awards (House of the YearProject of the Year, and the President’s Award) as outlined in the entry handbook.
  • A project must win its category to be eligible to win House or Project of the Year. House of the Year, Project of the Year and President’s Award are awarded at the judges’ discretion only. These categories are not available for separate entry.
  • To be eligible for the Rising Star Award, the entrant must be operating as a sole trader, in a partnership, or a director of a company. The entrant must hold a current contractor licence in a builder category (Low Rise, Medium Rise or Open) under the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 (Qld) (“the QBCC Act”) in the State of Queensland and have held such a licence anywhere for no more than seven years.
  • To be eligible for the Women in Building Award, the entrant must be a female who is currently in a trade and/or profession in the building and construction industry. No formal qualification is required for this award
  • To be eligible for the Apprentice of the Year Award, the entrant must be either currently completing an apprenticeship or have completed their indenture between 1 January 2024 and 1 March 2025
  • Each winner must meet the minimum score during judging to be declared a winner of the category
  • The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into by the judges or Master Builders
  • Entries are judged against a set of judging criteria. This is readily available via our online Awards entry system and our entry handbook.

Regional Awards

  • For projects/houses, judging is based on the project/house presented at the time of the allocated on-site inspection, in conjunction with information submitted with the entry
  • For Individual Awards (Rising StarWomen in Building, and Apprentice of the Year) and all sustainable, environmental and workplace health and safety categories, judging is based solely on the entry submission provided
  • For on-site inspections, the project/house must be available to Master Builders at an agreed time for the judges to conduct an on-site inspection of the project/house for the purposes of evaluating the entry in the Awards. The judges must have internal access to the building on the day of the inspection. It is the entrant’s responsibility to gain permission to access the building from the current owner of the building prior to the inspection. Should access to the project not be permitted at the time of the allocated on-site inspection, the entry may be disqualified
  • A winner may not necessarily be declared in all categories in all regions
  • The judges reserve the right to split an Award category into two separate award categories. If a category is split, only one of the two winners will be eligible to go forward for that Award at the Queensland Awards. This decision is at the regional judge’s discretion only
  • It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure their entry complies with the published judging criteria for the category. Entries that, in the opinion of the judges, do not comply with the judging criteria may be disqualified or, at the discretion of the judges, be judged under a different category to which the project was originally entered.
