Our CPC40120 - Certificate IV in Building and Construction is for trade contractors, site supervisors and foremen, and tradespeople.

It will give you the technical qualification you need to apply for a Builder Low Rise Licence through the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).

This program covers building construction theory and practices related to low rise buildings, providing the knowledge and managerial skills required to manage a successful residential building business.

Course outline

Our Certificate IV in Building and Construction course is based on the issues we know are important in the building and construction sector today.

The course covers:

  • Planning building and construction work
  • Contract management
  • Managing small business finances.

Students must have access to a construction worksite. You will be required to conduct practical project applications on site.

The course requires demonstration of the management and planning of the building process so students must have access to a construction worksite.

Costs and funding

Face-to-face full price:

  • Members: $7,170 (GST exempt)
  • Non-members: $7,270 (GST exempt)

Members payment plan: initial deposit of $1,500 + 10 monthly payments of $557
Non-members payment plan: initial deposit of $1,500 + 10 monthly payments of $567

Face-to-face CSQ funded price:

  • Members: $1,500 (GST exempt)^
  • Non-members: $1,600 (GST exempt)^

CSQ provides funding to reduce the financial obstacle to training, making upskilling an affordable option for many more individuals in the construction industry. ^CSQ funds to a maximum of $5,670 (subject to funding availability and eligibility criteria). Face-to-face eligibility

To enrol students must:

  • Have significant building and construction sector experience: a minimum of fourth year apprentice or one year post trade
  • Demonstrate a satisfactory level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Have access to internet and email
  • Have a modern laptop (preferably Windows based) with Microsoft programs and Adobe Reader, that can be used throughout the course duration for class work and assessments.
  • Recording device such as a mobile phone/video recorder
  • You will need access to a building and construction site as you will be required to demonstrate the management and planning of components of the building process, record them, and get the required sign-off by a qualified person for the project/s.

Full RPL (19 units) prices:

  • Members: $4,650 (GST exempt)
  • Non-members: $4,750 (GST exempt)
RPL Site Supervisor (10 units only) prices:
  • Members: $2,600 (GST exempt)
  • Non-members: $2,700 (GST exempt)

Payment plan for all RPL options:

  • Stage 1 payment: $250
  • Stage 2 payment: $750
  • Final payment on completion of assessment: remaining balance of fees.
RPL eligibility

For RPL, prior to enrolment, candidates must be:

  • Demonstrate and provide relevant evidence of at least four years experience on-site supervising all trades with a licensed builder in low rise building projects
  • Demonstrate a sufficient level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Have access to internet and email
  • Have a modern laptop (preferably Windows based) with Microsoft programs and Adobe Reader, that can be used throughout the course duration.
