Course outline

Successful completion of the program will give participants a nationally recognised Diploma of Leadership & Management BSB50420 qualification, and expose them to an interactive learning environment, contextualised to the construction industry, and focused on:

  • Construction planning (tasks and sequencing)
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills

The successful completion of the program will result in a Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) qualification. In addition, the interaction and networking with likeminded participants will result in a superior outcome to that generated from other professional development courses.

The Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) qualification can also be used to gain entry into university to continue the participant’s education beyond this program, if desired.

Assessment process

The assessment process for Master Builders’ BSB50420 - Diploma of Leadership and Management qualification involves activities based on three program clusters, planning, people and process, as well as a workplace project.

Cluster assessments comprise short answers, case studies and practical evidence gathered from the workplace. The workplace project focuses on implementing strategies to improve current business operations, which can be translated back to the workplace to benefit individuals and the organisation. Mentors and a Master Builders facilitator will provide support regarding submission of assessments.

Duration 10 months
DeliveryFace-to-face learning (this program is delivered over 5 mandatory, live-in, three and two-day workshops, over 10 months).

Costs and funding
  • Full course price: $12,000 (GST exempt)
  • Current BERT members or employees of contributing BERT employers: $3,754.40 (GST exempt)

Full course price payment plan: initial deposit of $1,500 + $1,500 at enrolment and $1,050 per month.

Eligibility

Due to the exclusive nature of this program, prior to enrolment, candidates should be:

  • Able to demonstrate current employment within the commercial sector for at least two years as a site supervisor, leading hand, finishing foreman, structural foreman (or similar)
  • Nominated by an employer and have access to a mentor throughout the program
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Able to commit to attending all ‘live-in’ workshops for the duration of the program
  • Able to access internet, office and various communication technology platforms
  • Have a modern laptop (preferably Windows based) with Microsoft programs, Google Chrome and Adobe Reader, that can be used throughout the course duration for class work and assessments.
