This course will equip employers, principal contractors and people conducting business and undertaking (PCBUs) to comply with their obligations in regard to the regulations and Code of Practice and keep people mentally healthy and safe at work.

In October 2022, amendments to the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations were made. They now contain a definition of psychosocial hazards and risks and detail a duty to manage and control those risks.

The WHS Regulations and Managing the risk of work-related psychosocial hazards Code of Practice (the Code) commenced on 1 April 2023. This six-hour course will teach you not only your legal obligations, but the practical skills to identify the risks, implement effective management tools and know how to respond and report.

Why enrol?

The WHS Act currently imposes a legal duty on PCBU’s to do what is reasonably practicable to eliminate or minimise psychosocial hazards as part of a person’s general WHS duty of care. This duty requires ensuring not just workers, but also other persons at work (e.g. visitors, delivery people, clients, etc.), are not put at risk from psychological hazards.

This course will teach you not only your legal obligations, but the practical skills to identify the risks, implement effective management tools and know how to respond and report.

Course outline

This six-hour course will equip you to:

Understand your obligations and how to comply with the WHS Act, and the new WHS Regulations and Code of Practice
Identify psychosocial factors that have the potential to become hazards at work
Use the practical guidance provided to effectively manage psychosocial risk, and review the effectiveness of risk controls that you implement
Know how to respond to, manage and investigate complaints, reports or incidents involving psychosocial hazards
Understand the benefits of, and be able to implement, effective consultation with everyone at work to identify psychosocial hazards, risks and controls
Have the tools to develop and maintain a mentally safe and healthy work environment.
