Australia is on a path to net zero by 2050 with a milestone marker of halfway by 2030.
With buildings responsible for up to a quarter of carbon emissions our industry is one targeted for change.
This is what we already know is coming:
- Updated trajectory for Low Energy Buildings by late 2024
- NCC 2025 – improving energy efficiency in commercial buildings and onsite renewables
- NCC 2028 – net zero buildings, with particular focus on residential, and embodied energy
- National Energy Rating Scheme for existing homes
- Increased stringency in planning and building to manage resilience.
The Green Building Council of Australia produces guides, training and resources to help industry deliver more sustainable buildings. This includes a dedicated resource for sustainable renovations.
