Blitz on cranes halts construction (Oct 2020)
19 October 2020
Workplace Health & Safety Queensland (WHSQ) has issued a safety alert pertaining to tower cranes, relating to fall-arrest systems, as set out in the Tower Crane Code of Practice (2017).
It follows a blitz by WHSQ inspectors on cranes at worksites across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with manufacturers and operators only recently made aware of non-compliance.
WHSQ have acted in response to a complaint, and a genuine safety risk, but with no safety incident to date, we don’t understand what prompted the blitz.
Master Builders is working closely with WHSQ and the industry, on both interim and long-term solutions.
Members who have been issued with a notice or have the relevant style of cranes on site can contact the Master Builders WHS team on 1300 30 50 10 for guidance.
