19 June 2020
On 19 June 2020 the Fair Work Commission handed down its decision in relation to the Annual Wage Review.
The FWC has taken into account the extraordinary circumstances facing the economy and has phased the introduction of any wage increase according to the industry groupings. Those industries hardest hit by the government response to COVID-19 have been granted a longer period of delay before the increases apply.
The Building and Construction Industry and Clerks Private Sector have been categorised within Group 2 – meaning that the operative date of the decision for award covering the Building Industry and Clerks Private Sector will be as from first full pay period commencing on or after 1 November 2020.
The Commission has determined as follows:
- The minimum wage will increase by 1.75 per cent, as will minimum award rates.
- The new minimum wage will be $753.80 per week, or $19.84 per hour.
- The change represents an increase of $13 per week to the guaranteed minimum wage.
New wage circulars are being prepared and will be available to members shortly.
