From enviable waterside abodes to region-boosting builds, Wide Bay Burnett took craftsmanship and ingenuity to a new level at the 2024 Housing & Construction Awards.
It was a full house at the Bundaberg Multiplex Centre on Saturday 27 July as the best in the business gathered to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the local industry.
Maiden Homes made it a hat-trick with three awards for their Seventeen Seventy stunner, Across The Bay, including the prestigious House of the Year Award, Best Residential Kitchen, and Individual Home from $1 million up to $1.5 million.
It was also a triple for Dobson Homes & Constructions, who took home the prized BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award, plus Best Residential Bathroom and Individual Home from $700,000 up to $850,000 for beachside beauty Bargara Palms.
Rounding out the Major Awards category, also with three gongs, was Hutchinson Builders who won Project of the Year and Commerical/Industrial Building over $50 million for the cutting-edge Bundaberg Brewed Drinks build, as well as Commercial Fitout over $10 million for Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Workplace.
In the Individual Awards category, respected businesswoman and industry trailblazer Sonja Pressler-McHugh of McHugh Steel was honoured with the Women in Building Award. Sonja and the McHugh Steel team also celebrated winning Commercial/Industrial Building from $5 million up to $15 million for New Commercial Factory – McHugh Steel Framing.
Renowned high-end home builder Joshua Ellis from Ellis Home and Construction was honoured with the Rising Star Award, while he and his team were also awarded Individual Home from $400,000 up to $550,000 for The Sa-Guaro. Also in the individual category, the unwavering commitment shown by Deegan Young from Ramage Building earned him the Apprentice of the Year Award.
Master Builders Regional Manager – Wide Bay Burnett, Ian Langer, congratulated the winners across all 34 categories.
“The past year has presented numerous challenges, but our industry has shown its remarkable resilience once again. This year’s entries have truly set a new standard,” Ian said.

Winner of the 2024 Wide Bay Burnett House of the Year Award – Maiden Homes for Across The Bay
Across the Bay is one of those homes that evokes a holiday feel. Nestled neatly into a steep slope, this three-storey home soaks up endless views across Seventeen Seventy. Its bespoke features include curved feature walls inside and out, archways, and timber and stone, wowing our judges with their ability to unite past and present. The sunken lounge and vaulted ceiling above are the heart of the home, seamlessly transcending to the outdoor living and pool. The workmanship and passion poured into this unique home is evident at every turn, and a credit to the Dobson team.
Winner of the 2024 Wide Bay Burnett Project of the Year Award – Hutchinson Builders for Bundaberg Brewed Drinks
Encompassing brewing, warehousing, offices, and logistics, this cutting-edge facility was designed with future regional growth in mind. The first stage of a much larger project, meticulous planning by the Hutchies team has resulted in two main buildings housing a luxurious and functional office area, flowing to the enormous research and production facility. Despite the scale, our judges were impressed with the high-level finishes, including a custom-made curved staircase and bottle wall in the office foyer, and seamless integration of technology.
