From leisure facilities and retail fitouts to seaside mansions and iconic apartments, this year's Sunshine Coast Master Builders 2023 Housing & Construction Awards showed off superb craftsmanship and innovation.
The best of the best in the building and construction industry were celebrated at the Awards held at Caloundra Events Centre on Friday, 18 August.
Nick Hayes Constructions were the big winners on the night, securing the sought-after Xact Accounting House of the Year with their spectacular beachfront mansion, Wilson Beach House located in Dicky Beach
Designed by architect, Charles Wright, the home is an inter-generational resort-style beach house that highlights low maintenance and durability.
Maximising ocean views, this timeless contemporary design is an entertainer’s dream with the ability to create multiple zones that can transform into one large open space to host guests.
The Nick Hayes Constructions team were also winners in the Individual Home over $10 million category,with the extraordinary home also picking up the award for Best Residential Kitchen.
McNab collected the Bathersby Legal Project of the Year and Commercial/Industrial Building over $50 million for the Sunshine Coast City Hall. This Maroochydore project has 10 storeys and includes retail, civic, and commercial spaces.
The theatre-style council chambers are a masterpiece and took more than four months to construct. Its bespoke feature tiered ceiling is breathtaking and timber wall cladding in natural blackbutt was expertly installed by hand for this space.
The beautiful Mons project in Buderim earned JT Homes the sought-after BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award.
The quality of workmanship is evident throughout the home in the smallest details and seamless design.
The other big winner of the night was Tomkins Commercial and Industrial Builders, who walked away with four awards including the Health Facilities up to $20 million and Retail Facilities over $5 million for Forest Glen Village Centre and Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Management, and Residential Building (high-rise over 3 storeys) over $20 million trophies for Seanna Residences in Bokarina Beach.
While this luxury beachside development showcases exceptional workmanship, superb finishes and quality commercial tenancies, the main beauty of this project was the effort that went into preserving the local environment and marine habitat.
Callum Zeuschner from Buildmast Construction took the Apprentice of the Year title and Linn Batey From Nyblad Construction claimed the Women in Building Award.
The Rising Star title went to Todd Stolberg from Alternative Construction Projects.
Master Builders' Sunshine Coast Regional Manager, Nicola Scott, congratulated all the winners across the 47 categories.
"Our members’ determination, talent and innovation are a true reflection of this year's Awards theme, Shining Bright," Nicola said.
“From community projects and huge educational facilities to modern apartments and beachside mansions, the Sunshine Coast building community came together to produce stellar projects.
"It doesn't matter whether they've taken an Award home this year or not. Each of our 2023 entrants is a part of the Master Builders family and helps cement why we're so widely trusted and respected.”

Beautiful Buderim home is judges favourite
Winner of the Sunshine Coast 2023 BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award – Mons by JT Homes (Aus)
This two-storey residence was constructed to work with the challenging landscape, resulting in a beautiful home, surrounded by natural bushland.
The Buderim home has polished spotted gum floors throughout, an ambient stone feature fireplace and an outdoor undercover entertainment area.
The simple yet effective kitchen works well with custom cabinetry for the fridge and spice racks and a practical laundry including a clothes chute from upstairs.
The project demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. With customised cabinetry, pocket sliding doors that bring the outdoors in. The custom laser-cut art piece at the entrance is a creative touch.

Landmark City Hall building sets standard for modern business district
Winner of the Sunshine Coast 2023 Bathersby Legal Project of the Year – Sunshine Coast City Hall by McNab.
The Sunshine Coast City Hall is a modern-day landmark masterpiece, which achieves the highest sustainable outcomes. Designed by award-winning Cottee Parker Architects with sustainability at its core design response, the City Hall includes features that will reduce environmental impact and embrace the Sunshine Coast climate.
With ten storeys, the project includes retail, civic, and commercial spaces and consolidates council’s diverse operations into one central building.
The theatre-style council chambers are at the heart of the project with its breathtaking bespoke feature tiered ceiling and timber wall cladding in natural blackbutt expertly installed by hand.
Its unique design and iconic façade is inspired by the forms and colours of one of the Sunshine Coasts’ most defining landmarks, the Glass House Mountains

Beachfront mansion is a concrete masterpiece
Winner of the Sunshine Coast 2023 Xact Accounting House of the Year – Wilson Beach by Nick Hayes Constructions
Wilson Beach House is a highly sophisticated, engineered structure, with incredible ocean views. Nick Hayes and his team built an intergenerational resort-style home that will withstand all the elements. Extensive ecological requirements needed to be considered during the construction of this incredible concrete structure with a long-life cycle being the primary design philosophy.
The beachfront building has an underground parking level and glass lift, a lap pool and gym, complete with a basketball court and bowling area.
With multiple zones that can transform into one large open space for entertaining, this beautiful home boasts a timeless and contemporary style that embraces an active lifestyle.
