Gold Coast builders deliver enviable projects at 2024 Housing & Construction Awards

2 August 2024

Gold Coast builders harnessed the beauty of the region and the coveted lifestyle it offers through their awe-inspiring projects at the 2024 Housing & Construction Awards.

A sellout crowd gathered for the glittering black-tie event at The Star Gold Coast on Friday 2 August to celebrate the industry’s best and brightest.

Havendeen swept the pool with a total of four Awards for modern masterpiece, PALA, including the prestigious House of the Year, Best Residential Kitchen, Best Residential Swimming Pool, and Individal Home from $5 million up to $10 million. In the Individual Awards category, Havendeen’s own Ned Foley was also named TAFE Qld Gold Coast Apprentice of the Year, impressing the judging panel with his exceptional work ethic and excellence in craftsmanship.

McNab made it a triple, winning the coveted McInnes Wilson Lawyers Project of the Year Award and Residential Building (high-rise over 3 storeys) from $20 million up to $50 million for Awaken Residences, plus Residential Building (high-rise over 3 storeys) over $50 million for White Main Beach by McNab Developments.

Rounding out the Major Awards category was DB Build, taking home the BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award for Caribbean-Colonial symphony La France.

Varli Building dynamos and partners Josh Lees and Alyce Lees were both awarded for the success of their business, with Josh named Rising Star, and Alyce earning the Women in Building Award.

Wrapping up the Specialty Awards category was Romark Design Constructions with Best Residential Bathroom for sophisticated Paradise Point renovation, The Phoenix.

Master Builders Regional Manager – Gold Coast, Adam Profke, congratulated the winners across all 52 categories.

“Our Housing & Construction Awards are the highlight of the year, celebrating not only the residential and commercial projects but also the incredible people who make this industry exceptional,” Adam said.

"We’re up against some hefty challenges right now, inlcuidng trade shortages, a 40 per cent hike in construction costs in the last three years, and a wave of regulatory changes, all as we play our part in tackling the housing crisis.

“But as we know, our industry is incredibly resilient – and the quality of the entries we’ve received this year proves that in spades, displaying next-level craftsmanship, ingenuity, and people with a passion for what they do, inspiring others to follow in their path.

“I’m proud of everything our Gold Coast industry continues to achieve, and I congratulate all our 2024 entrants and winners.”

Major Winners

Winner of the 2024 Gold Coast House of the Year Award – Havendeen for PALA

A beacon for modern construction, PALA has been designed and built to realise the aim of delivering technologies and standards of finish not often manifested in its surrounds. Behind its spectacular curved façade, the home is centered around the chef’s kitchen with a jaw dropping 12-metre void that draws down the natural light throughout the living spaces. Havendeen were applauded by our judges for the perfect execution of the build, from the basement through to the third-storey rooftop terrace.

Winner of the 2024 Gold Coast McInnes Wilson Lawyers Project of the Year Award – McNab for Awaken Residences

Perched on one of the most iconic locations on ‘D-Bar Hill’, Awaken Residences is breathtaking. Boasting eight-full floor, three-bedroom apartments, and a grand two-level full-floor penthouse, McNab has delivered a luxurious residence. The curved design presented notable challenges for conventional formwork techniques, but the team’s expert construction approaches enabled them to deliver a flawless product, inside and out. Incorporating the fine dining Pipi Restaurant and Awaken Café managed by the Gambaro family, Awaken sets the standard.

Winner of the 2024 Gold Coast BUSSQ Building Super President's Award – DB Build for La France

Nestled in the prime north-east corner of Mermaid Waters, La France is nothing short of masterpiece. The perfect symphony of Caribbean-Colonial design, this home is testament to the client engaging with DB Build before the dirt was turned. The subtle blue shutters elevate the white exterior, while inside, the curved American Oak staircase, temperature-controlled red wine cellar, and showstopping kitchen are among the perfectly executed features that wowed our judges. DB Build are to be commended for their exquisite craftsmanship.
