Gold Coast builders shine at 2023 Awards

From theme park projects and giant footballs to sprawling mansions and iconic apartments, the Master Builders Gold Coast 2023 Housing & Construction Awards showed off superb craftsmanship and innovation.

The best of the best in the building and construction industry were celebrated at the Awards held at RACV Royal Pines Resort on Friday, 21 July.

V-Build Construction Services were the big winners on the night, securing the sought-after House of the Year with their spectacular equestrian homestead, Mountainview located in Maudsland.

The sprawling home on an 80-acre property is a combination of a New Zealand mountain home and an American ranch, complete with horse stables, an arena, and a basketball court.

V-Build Construction Services were also winners in the ABI Interiors Individual Home over $3 million category and picked up awards for Best Residential Bathroom and Best Residential Kitchen, along with Best Residential Swimming Pool for JB Pool Constructions.

Hutchinson Builders collected the McInnes Wilson Lawyers Project of the Year and Ron McMaster Residential Building (high-rise over 3 storeys) over $20 million Awards for 272 Hedges Avenue. This Mermaid Beach apartment block is a unique curved building and an iconic construction that will define the Gold Coast skyline.

A modern take on a traditional Queenslander, The Breeze House earned PJH Construction Australia the sought-after BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award andalso saw them walk away with a win in the Individual Home from $1 million up to $2 million category.

With its large floor plan, grand scale, coastal beach house features, and contemporary curves, the Burleigh Heads project is a stylish, beautiful home.

One of the more original projects this year was by Badge Constructions for the Atlantis Project at Sea World on Main Beach. The team was awarded the Tourism and Leisure Facilities over $10 million trophy for the three-stage project, which included a tumbling pendulum-style ride above water, and a 32-metre-high rollercoaster track.

Other big winners of the night were Cameron Anderson from Clarke’s Design and Construct who took the TAFE Queensland Apprentice of the Year title and Zahra Glassford from Resolve Construction claiming the Women in Building Award.

Master Builders' Gold Coast Regional Manager, Adam Profke, congratulated all the winners across the 44 categories.

"Our members’ determination, talent and innovation are a true reflection of this year's Awards theme, Shining Bright," Adam said.

“From theme park projects and huge educational facilities to beachside apartments and hinterland mansions, the Gold Coast building community came together to produce stellar projects.

"It doesn't matter whether they've taken an Award home this year or not. Each of our 2023 entrants is a part of the Master Builders family and helps cement why we're so widely trusted and respected.”

Mermaid waters apartments ride wave of success

Winner of the McInnes Wilson Lawyers Project of the Year – 272 Hedges Avenue by Hutchinson Builders

Hinterland homestead gets golden gong

Winner of the House of the Year – Mountainview by V-Build Construction Services

Mountainview offers luxury with a combination of timber, limestone and stonework throughout. The home has six fireplaces, state-of-the-art cinema, wine and whiskey rooms and a gym.

This home is built around a 10-metre-high, 19th-century style timber barn that is incorporated into the structural steel and window façades.

The project includes the construction of an Olympic standard, undercover equestrian rink, and stables as well as a basketball court.

The home delivers features including two elevators, a car wash in the basement garage and custom-made cabinetry in every room to provide a luxurious and stylish lifestyle.

Modern Queenslander honours traditional 1930s style

Winner of the BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award – The Breeze House by PJH Constructions Australia

The inspiration for The Breeze House was to create a contemporary version of the traditional Queenslander, a modern take on a suburban home from the 1930s.

With its large floor plan, grand scale, coastal beach house features, and contemporary curves, The Breeze House is a beautiful home.

It features traditional design elements with its weatherboard cladding, metal roof, wide verandahs, and exposed rafters.

As the name suggests, The Breeze House’s design was heavily focused on crossflow ventilation, the French timber doors are intended to be open, connecting the internal areas to the external spaces.
