Brisbane builders set new standards at 2024 Housing & Construction Awards

19 July 2024

From idyllic island-style living to cutting-edge healthcare facilities, Brisbane builders raised the bar on quality craftsmanship and innovative techniques at the 2024 Housing & Construction Awards.

The event saw a sellout crowd gather at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday 19 July for what’s long been regarded as the industry’s night of nights.

AMD Quality Constructions swept the pool with five Award wins, including the prestigious Xact Accounting House of the Year Award and Individual Home from $3 million up to $4 million for stunning canal-side home Sternlight. The Victoria Point-based builder also bagged Individual Home from $1.5 million up to $2 million for grand acreage home Four Barns, and Individual Home from $2 million up to $2.5 million for Hamptons-inspired abode Anchorage. The AMD team rounded out the night by taking out Medium Density up to 3 storeys – 2 to 5 dwellings for The Oxford, an exclusive collection of five apartments at Taringa.

RYCON Constructions also made it a triple, winning the BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award, Foundation Technologies Best Use of Sloping Sites Award, and Best Residential Kitchen for the breathtaking Brisbane River-side renovation, Dutton Park Queenslander.

Also in the Major Awards category, John Holland took home the Professional Certification Group Project of the Year Award and the gong for Health Facilities over $20 million for the vital community healthcare project, Logan Hospital Expansion Project – Stage 1.

In the Individual Awards category, inspirational builder and interior designer Claire Perham from Axiom Construction Group won the HBA Legal Women in Building Award. Claire, husband Jay and team also celebrated Home Renovation Project from $450,000 up to $600,000 for their impeccable renovation, Avalon, at Gordon Park.

The Skill360 Apprentice of the Year Award honoured dedicated Penelope Homes team player Rhys Gray, while renowned Queenslander aficionado Brett Fowler of Saltash Homes won the Rising Star Award.

Master Builders Deputy CEO and Awards Ambassador, Sue-Ann Fresneda, congratulated the winners across all 63 categories.

“Our Housing & Construction Awards are the jewel in the crown of our annual calendar of events, honouring not just the residential and commercial projects, but the people who make the industry so special,” Sue-Ann said.

“Amid labour shortages, a 40 per cent jump in the cost to build in the last three years, and an avalanche of regulatory change as we work to build the homes and projects our communities need, our sector is facing its fair share of challenges right now.

“However, as we know, the industry is nothing if not resilient – and the calibre of the entries we’ve seen this year are testament to that.

“Our judging panels were very impressed by the outstanding projects and homes put forward this year, marvelling at their ingenuity and craftsmanship, and reinforcing the stellar reputation of the builders and tradies behind them.

“Whether a winner or not, everyone who entered this year’s Awards is a valued member of the Master Builders family, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything they continue to achieve.”
