Better building practices come about through education, driving professional growth, and enhanced regulatory clarity.
The constant change in our industry requires regular training and updates. Targeted, continuing professional development (CPD) that reaches across the supply chain, helps ensure an up-to-date, shared minimum knowledge base for all those involved in delivering construction projects.
Change also requires ongoing research into the appropriate regulatory oversight for the evolving uses in buildings and emerging construction methodologies.
Clear regulation that is freely available improves compliance. Improved evidence of suitability provisions in the National Construction Code (NCC), and ready and free access to regulated Standards, will help ensure the quality of the buildings that we deliver.
We also need to find ways to support innovation to improve safety, productivity, and building quality, including greater levels of off-site construction and modularisation.
What we are going to work to deliver
Advocacy with government:
- 1. Free access to Australian Standards referenced in the NCC.
- 2. Upskill the industry through introduction of a compulsory CPD (CCPD) for all Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) contractor licensees that is targeted and practical.
- 3. Clear leadership, supported by research, on emerging construction challenges such as electric vehicles in buildings.
- 4. Adopt the National Building Products Coalition’s Proposal for Change for evidence of suitability in the NCC to improve building product assurance.
- 5. Commitment from government to provide support and training for builders to transition to modern methods of construction.
- 6. Funding for demonstration projects and training centres to practically explore emerging issues and the adoption of innovative construction methods and products.
- 7. Require all energy assessors to be accredited and audited.
Master Builders-led initiatives:
- Work through Master Builders' regional Committees of Management to raise the profile of the sector as a career of choice.
